A book on the forgotten fertility festivals once celebrated across India — designed cover to colophon.
A book about the fertility festivals that India once celebrated immensely — public, loud, unembarrassed — and has since let slip into the margins. Designed cover to colophon: cover, type system, page grid, image treatment, the lot.
The subject was rich and almost lost. The book had to honour that without becoming academic — a strict editorial grid with a generous type pairing (modern serif headlines, monospace metadata) gave the chaos a shelf to rest on.
Image plates are full-bleed where they earn it, contained where the text deserves the air. A book is a sequence of rooms — every spread is its own room.
Printed on a warm uncoated stock. The accent ink leans toward saffron. The book wants to be touched.
